Welcome back!
What do you think of the new setup? A little dark in the background I think and the lamp is sticking out of my head in an unflattering way, but I’ll say this is an improvement over the last video. I will also have to reposition my key light as it’s giving me some not so pretty shadows on my face. Luckily, I’m a good looking bloke, so just about any lighting looks good on me… I’m just kidding.
So… In this video I just wanted to give you all a quick little demonstration of slog2 vs Rec 709 and the colours I’m seeing from my camera. I’m not a scientist, obviously, so I don’t know all the ins and outs of why the colours look whack from the slog2. I’m almost certain I’m probably just not very good at grading, and that a professional colourist could easily and quickly bring the slog2 to the same place as the Rec709, but that’s sort of my point. If you’re not shooting a scene with a high-dynamic range and you want a blazingly fast work-flow, why shoot in a log profile, when Rec709 will get you there instantly?
I’m literally dying to hear your thoughts on this. Let me know how you feel about colour grading your clips in the comment section of this blog, or on the YouTube channel. Ideally both! Haha =)
P.S. One last thing. Thank you so much to my beautiful and wonderfully patient life partner Paige for being in our examples. I planned on doing them myself, but my hair was a mess and they looked rubbish.
