I’ve been crafting wedding films for modern couples in Vancouver since 2020 and in that time I’ve gained intimate knowledge of Vancouver’s wedding industry, especially as it relates to the price wedding videography and wedding photography in Vancouver. I’ll tell you how much you should budget for your wedding videographer as well as explore the factors influencing the cost of wedding videography in Vancouver.
Your wedding could quite possibly be one of the most cherished memories of your life, and capturing this event on film is way to make sure that memory never fades. It’s therefore crucial to know how much wedding videography costs in Vancouver, so you can ensure your budget allows for it.
Unfortunately, many videographers will only provide their pricing/packages on request. I think this creates friction for couples so I provide my prices on my website. You can see my prices right here: Pricing Guide.
Let’s look at the most common wedding videography services on offer in Vancouver, BC. I’ve broken the services up, but many of these services are often bundled together into packages to add value:
Highlight Films: $1500 – $5000+
Highlight films are easily the most common and popular of the services offered by wedding videographers in Vancouver. These entertaining, short recap videos are generally the cheapest option you will have available and the most shareable.
Adventure Elopements: $5000 – $9000+
An Adventure Elopement is more expensive than a highlight film because of the extra travelling involved. The further the videographer has to travel the more they will charge you. Video equipment is expensive to travel with and here in Vancouver it can be cumbersome to hike the equipment up mountains to get to that perfect elopement location. So, just be prepared to pay more for international or difficult to access locations.
Live Streaming: $1500 – $6000
Live streaming really is a different service, requiring specialized equipment. Be warned, not all videographers will offer live streaming as a service, and if they do, they will probably be 1. bringing in an outside provider under their name, or 2. using an iPhone. Personally, I use an outside company I have a relationship with for couples who require live streaming and this works well. Make sure you ask your videographer about this, because if they plan on using their phone you might as well use your own and save money.
Documentary Edits: $3000 – $12000
A documentary edit is essentially a longer edit of your highlight film. These can range wildly in length, being anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours long, and usually include recorded interviews with the couple.
Videography & Photography: $6000 – $20000
A videography and photography package is exactly what it sounds like. The details will change between providers, but at a minimum you should receive a highlight film and a gallery with a few hundred images.
Engagement Shoot: $1500 – $3000
An engagement shoot, sometimes called a pre-wedding film, is a film shot before your wedding showing you and your partner in a variety of locations and sometimes in different outfits. This film is often spliced with your wedding film to create more interest in your final film. These films are usually short, being around 5 minutes or less in length.
Now that you know the price of wedding videography in Vancouver, let’s look more closely at why some videographers are more expensive than others.
The experience and expertise of a wedding videographer will impact the cost of their services. Established and highly skilled videographers with an impressive portfolio will charge higher rates due to their level of skill. In contrast, less experienced videographers might offer more budget-friendly packages. Remember, investing in an experienced professional ensures the quality of your wedding film. Basically, you get what you pay for here.
The duration of coverage required for your wedding day also plays a vital role in determining the cost. Most videographers offer packages that vary in hours of coverage, ranging from a few hours to a few days. Discussing your specific needs will ensure a custom package that perfectly suits your needs.
Wedding videographers often have distinct styles, from romantic and modern to documentary or traditional. If there aren’t many people creating a certain style then you can expect to pay a premium for it. The level of complexity in editing and post-production will also affect the cost.
Having a second shooter provides more coverage, capturing different angles and moments simultaneously. While it may come with an added cost, having multiple videographers will significantly enhance the overall quality your wedding film. Many videographers only shoot with a second shooter.
High-quality equipment and additional services can add to the overall cost. Although these extras might enhance the final product, be mindful of your budget and choose the services that truly matter to you.
The timing of your wedding can also impact the price of videography services. Peak wedding seasons, such as spring and summer, are always more in demand, and so cost more. Booking your videographer well in advance can help you secure better rates and ensure their availability.
Your wedding day is an important moment in your life, and preserving it with a film is a decision you won’t regret. When budgeting for wedding videography in Vancouver, consider their style, professional experience, and how long you need them. Additionally, factor in any extra services you wish to add to your package.
Remember that the investment in the right wedding videographer for you is an investment in your family history, you and your loved ones can cherish for generations to come.
